Name: Amber

Age:

40's.

I mostly post about:

My Star Trek fanclubs and Ghostbusters fanclub, photos, paintings, drawings, fanfic, shows, binges, cosplay, real life, health issues, Fall, Halloween.

My hobbies are:

My Star Trek club, photography, drawing, painting rocks/hiding them, theme parks, cosplay, disneybounding, binging shows/movies.

My fandoms are:

Way to many to list but here goes: 9-1-1, 9-1-1 Lone Star, Star Trek, Star Wars, Shadowhunters, Supernatural (not much anymore), Harry Potter, The Lord of The Rings/The Hobbit, Jurassic Park/World (except new one), Psych, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Back to The Future, Scream, IT (old one), A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Horror, Disney, Marvel, PokemonGo (Is that considered fandom? lol).

I'm looking to meet people who:

Same interests as me.

My posting schedule tends to be: daily/weekly/monthly/sporadic/etc

Whenever I have something to post or say.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are:

politics (especially if that's all you post about I will not comment on them), homophobes, transphobes, church/God haters, Trump supporters, inactive accounts, bigotry, racists.

Before adding me, you should know: I'm a open heart patient with 8 surgeries and a pacemaker surgery to my name. So my posts are often about my health problems. I'm an introvert except around my club members and even then sometimes still. I'll delete if someone never comments on something or I don't feel we connected, nothing personal.

Favorite color: Purple. Then dark green and black.

Currently watching: The last thing I watched was about 5 minutes of Astrid on the PBS app this morning.

Last movie: One of the Hunger Games movies was on while I was reading. E was watching it.

Currently reading:
The AI Con: How to Fight Big Tech's Hype and Create the Future We Want by Emily Bender

Coffee or tea: COFFEE! I like tea a lot, but I NEED coffee.

Sweet/savory/spicy: Spicy

Relationship status: Married (until they outlaw gay marriage again)

Looking forward to: If I'm honest, it's hard to look forward to anything right now. I guess I'm looking forward to little stuff like DC coming over again Friday, sending some Postcrossing cards, making stuff ... someday I would like to travel again.

Current obsessions: AI, the new job, Ted Lasso (I finished seasons 1-3 and am now hips deep in the subreddit, Stephen Graham Jones (Buffalo Hunter Hunter), and going to bookstores.

Last Googled: 3I/ATLAS - Someone here posted a link to this story and I thought there might be the potential for a fic in it, so I did some googling. It's going in the idea file.

Last thing you ate and really enjoyed: E's vegan stew from last night

Currently working on:
Replacing several light fixtures downstairs and looking for an idea that will inspire sriting.

SGA: Long Ago (and Far Away) by Kristen999

Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Characters/Pairings: Genfic. John Sheppard, Rodney McKay, Evan Lorne, Ronon Dex, Carson Beckett, Teyla Emmagan, Original characters
Rating: Teen
Length: 79,623
Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply. Grim at times, as it depicts an aspect of WWII.
Creator Links: kristen999 on AO3, everybetty on LJ
Themes: Working together, Action/adventure, Teamwork, Friendship, Genfic, AU: historical, Novel-length

Summary: WWII-based AU. The Team as we know it has been transplanted to the South Pacific.

Reccer's Notes:
This tour de force is a novel-length story by [personal profile] kristen999, assisted by everybetty, an historical AU set in Papua-New Guinea, in WWII. It's pretty male-centric because of that, but does include Teyla as a local liaison with intel about the enemy. It's got lots of plot, great action and adventure, and an excellent sense of place - you can almost feel the tropical heat making you sweat and hear the mosquitoes whine. The story is illustrated throughout with lots of period photos from the time. It's told from all of the team's POVs, particularly John's (he's a pilot, of course, with Rodney and Ronon on his flight crew). Naturally, John gets thoroughly whumped, in the best genfic tradition. There's tons of atmosphere, friendship and teamwork, and it's a really great read.

carnivorous pitcher plant

While hiking in a conserved wetland, I saw an informational sign about native pitcher plants. I had no idea we had these in New England; I always thought of carnivorous plants as a tropical thing. But I took a look around and they were certainly there!

three cups formed out of green leaves with red veins

This appears to be Sarracenia purpurea which has a lot of names in English, including Common Pitcher Plant. The specialized leaves form cup-shaped traps with nectar at the bottom that attracts bugs, which can't escape and are digested to provide nutrition for the plant. In this species the traps sit on the ground, and I don't know if I would have noticed them if I hadn't been looking.

The barre class at the gym today kicked my ass; genuinely kind of embarrassed that I had to put down the weights and sit down during the arm work bit because I got dizzy. Anemia, why you gotta be so intractable?

The nectarine I had this morning was the best nectarine I have ever eaten, and I have eaten a lot of nectarines. The community garden is having a flame war in email over everyone's garlic being stolen for the second year in a row and lines of battle are being drawn between people who think we should install cameras as a deterrent and people who think this is surveillance culture/security theater.

It's been a few weeks since I've been to campus and I have a day chockablock with meetings; I will have to remember to pack lunch and a snack and I'm annoyed I already wore the shirt I planned to wear. How did I do this five days a week in the Before Times???

kites in the sky

The only birds of prey I see here in my tiny town in south-eastern Sweden are Red Kites (Milvus milvus). They're usually soaring far too high up and away over the forest to get acceptable photos of. This morning however a pair was kind enough to come down low enough I could take Expandthese... )

Birds in Flight

I interrupt my travel series to share some photos from the last months of birds. This barn swallow was caught almost by accident as it headed off, coming towards us in the parking lot.

I am tired. Because I got up at six to go swimming. In the rain. Wait. I mean I walked 20mins through rain and then got wet again in the pool. Rain had stopped for the walk home but has been really coming down today, complete with special appearances from actual hail and thunder. Today I also had to commit mass murder because one of my ceiling spiders had about 50 baby spiders and I cannot accommodate that. I feel bad (because pms I legit teared up when I vacuumed them up) because that wasn't explicitly in the rules.

[In case you want to know, these are the Rules for Spiders in Kat's House:
1. Must stay above head level but not right above. Corner of ceiling is acceptable. Right in the middle of the ceiling above the sofa is not. Being at eye level or lower where accidental touching may happen, is very not acceptable.
2. No running in the house. Only move when I cannot see it. Any and all kind of movement on furniture is verboten (see Rule 1).
3. (new addition) No babies. I'm afraid we cannot accommodate families with children. Only single, child-free professional spiders are welcome.]

The point is, that I'm tired and cannot brain, so [community profile] sunshine_revival challenge #4 'ten things that make you smile' seems like a doable thing.

These are all everyday joys, not the big grand things of love and purpose etc.

In order that I thought of it...

1. Trick's little squeaky meows. He sounds like a cross between a haunted house door and a dog toy.

2. Sound of rain. Extremely soothing.

3. The fact that I have managed to keep my Aloe Vera plants alive for over a year now. I am, as a rule, not gifted in things green and growing.

4. Blueberry coffee.

5. Putting clean laundry out to dry on the line. Collecting it once dry and folding it nicely. Truly my favourite household task.

6. Berries, fruit etc. Today I've had raspberries, peach, and honeydew melon.

7. Swimming underwater. I'm up to five slow strokes underwater at the moment, starting from 'not out of breath for any reason' position, and working on it. It's so peaceful.

8. Getting silly memes, videos, pics and messages from my friends and partners throughout the day.

9. Candles and incense. I like former a lot and latter in moderation.

10. Stickers on my work laptop. I recently had to change laptops which meant I lost all my lovely stickers on it but never fear, I ordered more. What I have on my work laptop lid and thus purposefully on full display to students and colleagues are stickers that say
  • 'Safe Space', over a Progress Pride flag with a heart in the middle
  • 'Tax the Rich', shouted by an angry cat
  • 'Capitalism caused climate change', in fetching shades of green
  • 'Pan, Poly, Proud', in Pan flag colours
  • 'Trans rights are human rights', in Trans flag colours
  • 'Work', over a silhouette of Schyuler sisters from Hamilton
  • + a sticker of a cartoon cat vomiting a rainbow and another sticker of a black cat whose fur is full of stars
